Obituary of Donald Richard Berrie

Donald Richard Berrie, age 79, of Washington Twp., NJ died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. Mr. Berrie was born February 16, 1926 in Winfield, Kansas the son of the late James and the late Alda (Newman) Berrie. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1947 during World War II. Donald Graduated Kansas State College with an Electrical Engineering Degree. He worked for Sperry Gyroscope Company in Lake Success, NY for 39 years where he received numerous awards including the Apollo Achievement Award. He helped design the guidance systems for both the first atomic submarine, the Nautilus and the Apollo landing module. Having a great love for the ocean, Donald spent many hours sailing and windsurfing on the Long Island sound. He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years: Mildred (nee Maxine) Berrie, his daughter: Dawn Berrie of Manhattan, NY and his son: Raymond Berrie of Washington Twp., NJ. Donald also leaves behind three grandchildren, Kira, Chelsea and Devyn. Visiting hours will be Friday, January 13th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. There will be a Prayer Service held at 6:30 pm also on Friday. Burial at sea at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club to be scheduled at a later date.
