Robert Alway

Obituary of Robert P. Alway

Robert Peter Alway, 64, of Hampton, left this earth unexpectedly on November 5, 2014 as a result of a sudden heart attack. At the time of his death, Robert was enjoying a beautiful fall day in New Jersey walking by the Spruce Run Reservoir, one of his favorite pastimes. We would like to thank the passerby who attempted to aid Robert in his final moments; we are so grateful that he was not alone. He was born on February 22, 1950 in Pompton Lakes. He was the son of the late Harold Alway and Elizabeth Nichols Alway. On August 11, 1990 he married Sheila Alway at the Hunterdon County Arboretum, and they moved to the town of Clinton. He was a resident of Hunterdon County for the next twenty six years. He was an accomplished pastry chef and worked at the Ryland Inn, as well as on the Norwegian Cruise Lines, where he was able to visit his favorite state, Hawaii. Most recently, he worked at Lafayette College Dining Services in Easton, PA. He was an avid outdoorsman and a passionate Yankees fan. He always looked forward to attending the annual Old Timer's Day event as well as meandering drives to nowhere in the country. Robert loved all animals, and they universally adored him in return. Most of all, he enjoyed making those around him happy through his cooking. Survivors in addition to his wife include his brother Eugene Alway, his sister-in-law Janet Alway, Brother and sister-in-law, John and Mindy Eibelhauser, step daughter Beth Goldberg: six nieces; Jeanne, Melissa, Amanda, Amy, Nina, Samantha and four nephews; Joseph, John, Tim, and Dan and many friends. Robert was predeceased by his three brothers: Bernard, Thomas, and Lawrence Alway. A memorial service will be held on Friday November 14, 2014 at 3:00pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ 08809. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to the charity of your choice in Robert's name.
