John McGeough

Obituary of John "Dixie" McGeough

John "Dixie" McGeough Dixie McGeough, 81, was welcomed into the Kingdom of Heaven on Tuesday, December 9, 2014 . He began his journey on April 6, 1933 in Gilberton, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late John McGeough and Anna Petrusky McGeough. He was the brother of the late Anna Lukenda. He left his coal mining beginnings and moved to Linden, New Jersey to start his life. He eventually settled in Fanwood, New Jersey to raise his family when his life truly began. He retired to Toms River, New Jersey to spend his last years enjoying the feel of the sand in his toes. He leaves behind the love of his life, Joyce McGeough, who he was devoted to for 45 years. Together they built their family – son Sean McGeough, daughter Tara McGeough Miles, son Tim McGeough and daughter Erin McGeough Apgar. He walked his two daughters down the aisle to marry their husbands - Dan Miles and Wes Apgar. He stood with his sons when they married their wives – Lynn McGeough and Kristin McGeough. Although it seemed impossible, his heart grew even more with the birth of his 6 grandchildren – Patrick McGeough, Breandan McGeough, Hanna Miles, Jack Apgar, Matthew Apgar and Mason McGeough. Dixie had only one focus - his family. They were his life. Every extra penny earned, every spare minute he had, every decision he made and most of all every bit of love he had was for them. A celebration of his life will be held on Friday, December 12, 2014 from 3:00pm-6:00pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2014 at 10:00am at Church of Saint Ann's, 32 Main Street, Hampton, NJ 08827. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 521 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006. Dixie's family is truly grateful for the care and love they gave him in his final days. To honor his love for his children and grandchildren, donations can also be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. "May the road rise to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face. And rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollow of His hand."
