Obituary of Anthony A. Masterson

Anthony A. Masterson, age 89, of Glen Gardner, NJ died Monday, February 16, 2015 at NJ Fireman's Home of Boonton, NJ. Anthony was born April 3, 1925 in Newark. He was the son of the late Anthony F. and the late Edna (Danowski) Masterson. Before entering the Navy Anthony worked as a salesman and delivery man for the Pepsi Cola Company, entering the Navy and WWII in 1943 he was active in many significant battles aboard the USS Bunker Hill with the Pacific fleet. Anthony retired in 1984 as a Fire Captain with the Newark Fire Co. after thirty five years of service. During that time he received the P. Ballentine and Sons Heroism Award for rescuing a mother and children from a second story window of a burning building. He will be remembered for his expert cabinet making and his gardening skills. Anthony loved spending time with his family and friends especially on vacation in Beach Haven on LBI. Anthony was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth in 2007 and also his sisters Caroline Krieg and Madeline LeClair and brothers Robert and James. He is survived by three daughters: Ann Marie and her husband Frank Lombardo of Independence, NJ, Colleen and her husband James Bystrak of Lake Hopatcong, NJ, Laurie and her husband Kevin Walsh of Buttzville, NJ and one son: Robert and his wife Janette Masterson of Glen Gardner, NJ. Also surviving are his brother Richard and sister, Mary Henry, ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Visitation will take place Saturday, February 21, 2015 from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. There will be a Mass of Christian burial held at 12:00 pm on Saturday, February 21 at St. Ann's Church, 6 Church Street, Hampton, NJ. The Interment will follow mass at St. Ann's Cemetery in Hampton, NJ. Memorial donations in Anthony's name may be made to St Jude Children Hospital.
