Obituary of Elsa A. MacLean

Elsa A MacLean, age 91, formerly from the Bronx, NY, died on March 9, 2015, in Bethlehem Township, NJ, in the home of her daughter and son in law. Elsa was born in Bretten, Baden, Germany on December 27, 1923. She attended Walton High School, Bronx, NY, and graduated from Hunter College in NYC with a Bachelor's Degree in Physiology. In addition to being a wife and mother, Elsa worked outside of the home as a Sales Associate and a Bookkeeper. Elsa was an active volunteer. She was a Girl Scout Leader and a Service Unit Director. Elsa was an active member of her local PTA. In addition, she was Treasurer and Financial Secretary at Trinity Lutheran Church, Watson Ave., Bronx, NY. Elsa was of the Lutheran faith and her church community and faith always gave her strength and comfort. She loved square dancing and was an active member of the Pelham Promenaders. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and origami. Elsa loved to travel and traveled to all but five states in the US. Elsa was a loving wife, mother and friend. Elsa is predeceased by her parents Georg and Marie Ammann, and her husband Thomas Donald MacLean. She is survived by her three daughters and their spouses, Linda Meyer (Harry) of Tigard, Oregon, Barbara Hofler (Steven) of Bethlehem Township, NJ, and Irene Smith (Phil) of Columbus, Ohio. She is survived by 13 grandchildren. In lieu of flowers donations are requested in Elsa's name to Trinity Lutheran Church, 2125 Watson Ave, Bronx, NY 10472 or to Living Waters Lutheran Church, 11 Old York Road, Ringoes, NJ 08551 or to Hunterdon Hospice, 2100 Wescott Drive, Flemington, NJ 08822. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday March 20, 2015 at Living Waters Lutheran Church, 11 Old York Road, Ringoes, NJ 08551. Inurnment service will be held at 12:00pm on March 21, 2015, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Bronx, NY.
