Obituary of James Burns

James A. “Jim” Burns, of Asbury, NJ passed away peacefully on Monday February 20, 2017, at the age of 68. He was born in Somerville, NJ and was a lifelong resident of Hunterdon County graduating from North Hunterdon Regional High School in the Class of 1966. He had served in the United States Army National Guard in 1960s.

Jim was a successful trucking business entrepreneur of J.A. Burns Trucking Company of Asbury, NJ for 45years. He was a gentleman to all, and most importantly, a devoted husband, father, brother and grandfather.

As a past drag racer and competitor at Flemington Speedway, his passion for cars and motorsports continued with his never-ending support of his sons’ racing, which included local and professional racing ventures up to and including Daytona and NASCAR. Always a devoted family man, he enjoyed spending time with his family and caring for his many dachshunds and rescue dogs.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Wilmer and Marie (Isak) Burns. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Dalrymple) Burns, sons, Michael (34) and Jimmy Burns (38) and a sister, Joanie White of California. He was a very proud father and grandfather of six beautiful grandchildren: Leam (11), Clinton (9), Evan (8), Anna (5), Lily (2) and Willow (6 mo).

Visitation will be held on Thursday February 23rd from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. A prayer service will be held in the funeral home at 7:30 Thursday evening.

In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made in Jim’s memory to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) or Common Sense for Animals (www.commonsenseforanimals.org).
