Obituary of Jack H. Duckworth
Jack H. Duckworth, age 69, of Long Valley, NJ, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 21, 1955, in Somerville, NJ, to Harold and Patricia (Potts) Duckworth, Jack spent his life in Long Valley, living in the very house where he grew up, a place filled with memories, laughter, and the warmth of family.
For many years, Jack worked in the building and grounds department at the Purnell School, where he took great pride in his work and was known for his craftsmanship and quiet dedication. On November 12, 1977, he married his sweetheart, Debra (Apgar), beginning a lifelong partnership built on love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together they raised two children, Holly and Adam, and Jack found immeasurable joy in being "Poppy” to his three grandchildren—Sylvia, Xander, and Magnolia.
Jack was a man of many talents and passions. A gifted craftsman, he made handmade brooms, built with wood and leather, tinkered with engines, and found joy in repairing and restoring. A HAM radio operator, he loved the quiet thrill of distant voices across the airwaves. Jack’s heart was happiest outdoors—fishing, gardening, farming, or simply riding his beloved tractor through the land he cherished.
An avid NASCAR enthusiast and loyal New York Yankees fan, Jack's love for the simple pleasures in life was matched only by his deep devotion to his family. Whether sharing stories around the kitchen table or teaching his grandchildren how to plant a seed or fix an engine, Jack lived his life with patience, purpose, and love.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 47 years, Debra Apgar Duckworth; his daughter, Holly, and her husband, Sean; his son, Adam, and his wife, Amanda; and his beloved grandchildren, Sylvia, Xander, and Magnolia. Jack’s legacy lives on in the values he instilled, the laughter he inspired, and the love he gave so freely.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Jack’s life on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Rt. 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. A service will follow at 12:00 pm, with interment immediately afterward at Lower Valley Cemetery, 445 County Rd. 513, Califon, NJ 07830.
Jack was never one to get dressed up, so for those attending casual dress would be appreciated.
