Obituary of Steven Welenteychik
Steven Welenteychik, age 83, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at the Hunterdon Care Center in Flemington, New Jersey.
Born on December 31, 1941, in New York City to the late Michael and Vera Welenteychik, Steven. He grew up in High Bridge, New Jersey graduated from High Bridge High School, and went on to attend Drexel University. He was married to the late Marianne Welenteychik (née Behr), and together they shared a life full of love, travel, and service.
Steven spent much of his professional life at Ethicon in Somerville, NJ, working as a packaging engineer. He was a respected member of the company’s safety committee and known for his dedication and integrity. Outside of work, Steven was a devoted member of St. Gregory Palamas Church in Glen Gardner, where he found community and purpose. He will be remembered especially for leading the church’s beloved annual pierogi fundraiser—his pierogis were legendary and made with both skill and heart.
Steven had a strong spirit of volunteerism, and for many years, he served with the High Bridge Rescue Squad, supporting local EMTs and firefighters however he could. His many hobbies reflected his vibrant personality: he was an avid square dancer with the wardrobe to match, a camper, sailor, and traveler. He especially loved sailing his boat on Spruce Run Reservoir and spending time in Lake George, the Poconos, and Florida, often on cruises or enjoying his timeshares with Marianne by his side.
He is survived by his brother Michael Welenteychik; niece Patricia Robeski; nieces Sharyn Young, Kathi Magocs, and Maryann Cavlier; and nephews Marc Welenteychik, Michael Welenteychik, and Doug Heater. He is also survived by his stepchildren: Cathy Powell, Karin Fiscaletti, Nancy Mixon, Donald Hollenbeck, and Kenneth Hollenbeck.
Steven is predeceased by his first wife, Betty Welenteychik; his second wife, Marianne Welenteychik; his sisters Nina Cavlier, Jane Heater, and Olga Trimmer; and his stepdaughter Linda Hollenbeck.
Family and friends are invited to attend Visitation on Sunday, April 27th, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28th, at 10:00 AM at St. Gregory Palamas Church, 5 Church Street, Glen Gardner, NJ 08826, followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery on Halstead Street in Clinton.
