Obituary of Elsie G. Studley
Elsie G. Studley (née Grega), 98, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.
Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on August 31, 1926, Elsie was the daughter of the late Andrew Grega and Margaret (née Chorba) Grega. She was a 1942 graduate of St. John’s Nepomucene High School. In September of 1945, she married the love of her life, John J. Studley, beginning a union that would last until his passing—remarkably, on the very same date, 33 years earlier.
A devout Roman Catholic, Elsie was a longtime member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Pittstown, New Jersey. She lived her faith through action, teaching religious education and English as a second language, and participating as a member of the National Slovak Society.
Elsie’s talents and passions enriched the lives of those around her. She was an accomplished seamstress, a dedicated gardener, and a gifted baker whose home was always filled with warmth, good food, and the laughter of family. She was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones, and she truly was the heart and center of her family.
Elsie is survived by her daughter, Jean Marie O’Grodnick, and her husband, Joseph; her grandchildren, Nicole Fetherman and her husband, Rick, Tracy Schieferstein and her husband, Dan, and Michael O’Grodnick and his wife, Erin; and her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Madison, Ashley, Emily, Olivia, and Eloise. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews. Elsie was predeceased by her beloved husband, John; her sister, Irene Hine; and her brothers, John, Andrew, Emil, Stephen, Joseph, and Frank Grega.
Elsie’s life was one of love, faith, and dedication to family. Her legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, August 18th from 9:00 until 10:00AM at St. Catherine of Siena Church, located at 2 White Bridge Road, Pittstown NJ 08867.
