Obituary of Richard Edward Prescott

Richard Edward Prescott, lovingly known as Richie, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025, at the age of 82.

Born in Hillside, New Jersey, on January 14, 1943, Rich was the cherished son of the late Theodore and Minnie Prescott. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Theodore and Robert Prescott.

Rich proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before embarking on an extraordinary career at AT&T and later Lucent Technologies. Through hard work, dedication, and a strong sense of leadership, he rose to the position of Operating Manager of New Jersey. Known as a fierce advocate for his team, Rich was admired for his loyalty, fairness, and commitment to those he worked alongside.

The greatest joy of his life was his beloved wife, Carol, with whom he shared 59 beautiful years of marriage. Together they raised four daughters—Carrie Heater (Raymond), Amy Fetherman (Robert), Jenny Sarkisian (Chris), and Beth Binder—building a home filled with love, laughter, and lasting traditions.

A devoted family man, Rich was a proud grandfather to 13 grandchildren: Caitlin (John), Dylan (Alex), Ryan (Julia), Christie, Zachary (Heather), Randy, Mackenzie, Nicholas, Jack, Sam, Wil, Annabelle, and Molly, and a great-grandfather to six: Emma, John, Henry, Rylee, Julien, and Lanie. His guidance, unconditional love, and steady presence will live on in each of them. He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Oravetz, his sister-in-law, Dorothy Prescott, and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Rich’s passions extended beyond his family and career. He was an avid golfer who treasured time spent on the course with “the guys” and loved traveling the seas on cruises with Carol. To his family and countless friends, he was a source of wisdom, humor, and strength—a man admired, respected, and deeply loved.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday, August 25, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, August 26, at 10:00 AM at The Church of St. Ann, 6 Church Street, Hampton, NJ 08827. Interment will take place privately at Washington Crossing National Cemetery on Wednesday, August 27.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Rich’s memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation (https://t2t.org/donate/ ), honoring his lifelong devotion to service and family.

Rich’s life was a shining example of love, dedication, and integrity. He will be remembered always as an extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend—forever cherished in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
