Obituary of Christine Theresa Johnson

August 27, 1952 – September 17, 2025

Christine Johnson, lovingly known as “Chris,” of Lopatcong, NJ, formerly of Seaford, DE, passed away peacefully in her home on September 17, 2025, surrounded by her cherished family. Born on August 27, 1952, in Jersey City, NJ, and raised in Cranford, NJ, Chris lived a life full of love, laughter, and devotion to her family.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Chester and Theresa Brzoska and the former spouse and dear friend of the late Raymond Johnson.

Chris is survived by her loving children: daughter Caryn Fortunato and her husband Justin, son Douglas Johnson, and her “bonus daughter” Gena (Julio). She was the proud “Mima” to her adored grandchildren, Anthony, Kayla (James), and Trinity, as well as her bonus granddaughter, Maida. Her grandchildren were the center of her world and the greatest joy of her life.

She is also survived by her twin sister Joanne, her older sister Susan (Duke), and a large extended family who lovingly called her Aunt Chris, including nieces and nephews Cheryl (Jacob), Eric (Shakia), Wendy (Vito), Donny (Trang), and Tee (Jimmy). She was a treasured great-aunt to Jacob, Jack, Mycah, Tyler, Parker, Kendra, Kylie, and JJ and Grandma Partner with Pam.

One of her proudest accomplishments was purchasing her first home on her own, where she cultivated a beautiful garden and spent countless hours by the pool with her grandchildren. Chris dedicated 15 years as a Customer Service Representative at Walmart in Seaford, DE, where her coworkers and customers became a second family.

Chris embraced life to its fullest. She loved time on the water boating and camping, family gatherings, and Polish poker games. In her later years, she found her greatest happiness in being “Mima”—spoiling her grandchildren, baking, sharing recipes, tending her garden, swimming, and vacationing with family. She cherished beach days, vineyard trips with “the ladies”, and any excuse to celebrate life. Known as the life of the party, Chris could often be found on the dance floor, laughing and asking, “Who sings this song?” Her warmth, humor, and joy touched everyone she met.
