Obituary of Paul James Mahoney

February 7, 1960 to October 31, 2025

Paul James Mahoney, 65, of Hampton, NJ, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, with his beloved family by his side. Paul was born on February 7, 1960, in Weymouth, Massachusetts, to George William Mahoney and Kathy (née Moog) Mahoney. Though life took him far from his hometown, he maintained many life-long friendships and frequently turned up to the local sports bar to cheer on his beloved Boston teams, especially the Patriots.

A proud graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Paul forged friendships that lasted a lifetime. He earned his Engineering degree in 1984 and went on to serve as an officer in the U.S. Army until 1987, and Army Reserves until 1999. Even after his service, Paul’s ties to West Point remained strong. He loved attending Army football and lacrosse games to reconnect with his teammates and maintain the camaraderie of his cadet days.

Paul went on to build a successful career in logistics planning, where his sharp mind and steady leadership helped support the growth of companies such as Amazon, Baker & Taylor Book & Entertainment, and M&M Mars. Colleagues knew him as someone who could tackle the most complex challenges with both strategy and efficiency while regaling them with his latest outrageous story. He was especially proud of his contributions as a board member to the Center for Educational Advancement (CEA).

But Paul’s proudest achievements were his family. He was the devoted husband of Ghislaine (née Tritz) Mahoney and the loving father of Sean, Patrick, and Caroline. He welcomed Kayla into the family not only as a perfect partner for Patrick and mother of his children, as well as a daughter and angel on earth as she fought tirelessly for his well-being the past year and a half. He was also “Pop-Pop Paul” to his adored grandchildren, Aidyn, Robby, and Samuel, who brought endless joy to his life. Paul is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Kevin and Mary Mahoney, sister- and brother-in-law Giselle and John McGrail, and nieces and nephews Ian McGrail, Peter McGrail, and Nicole McGrail, Musa Mahoney, Oceana Mahoney, Mio Mahoney, and Lynden Mahoney. He was predeceased by his parents and by his older brother, John Mahoney.

Paul loved skiing, biking, kayaking, and playing basketball and lacrosse as well as making memories with his family. He also loved to discuss politics and mastered the Donald Trump impersonation including the pursed lips. His sense of humor, generosity, and warmth touched everyone who knew him. Whether on the sidelines of a game, on the slopes, or simply gathered around the table at home, Paul had a way of making people feel welcome and valued. Even during his battle with ALS his strength and courage never faltered. He maintained both his ability to make the people around him laugh and of course his Wordle Streak that reached 294 as of his passing.

His family and friends will miss him as deeply as they loved him and will carry forward the example he set of living with loyalty, love, and laughter.

Services for Paul will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in Paul’s memory to Compassionate Care ALS at P.O. Box 1052 West Falmouth, MA 02574 or online at ccals.org/
