Obituary of Dr. Dario Valcarcel, Jr.

DR. DARIO VALCARCEL, JR.
February 5, 1931 – November 27, 2025

Dr. Dario Valcarcel, Jr., 94, of Clinton, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday, November 27, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.

In 1952, he proudly joined the United States Air Force, where he served with distinction as part of a special intelligence unit. His military experience strengthened the discipline, curiosity, and global awareness that would guide the rest of his life.

Education was Dario’s calling and lifelong passion. Over the course of a long and accomplished career, he dedicated himself to teaching and inspiring young minds. He taught subjects such as science, history, and philosophy, bringing curiosity and context to every lesson. His commitment to education and leadership ultimately led him to the role of Superintendent of the Glen Rock School District, where he worked tirelessly to support students, teachers, and the wider community. His impact continues in the lives of generations shaped by his dedication, vision, and belief in learning.

After his retirement, Dario embraced another passion—travel. With his late wife, Joan Valcarcel, he explored the world with enthusiasm and wonder, visiting Antarctica, Asia, Europe, and many other remarkable destinations. They shared a love of adventure, knowledge, and discovery that carried through all chapters of their life together.

Dario will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Joani Valcarcel and her husband Bruce; his sons, Dario Valcarcel III and his wife Anna, and Alex Valcarcel; and his niece and nephew, Kim Betancourt and Erik Hermo. He will also be greatly missed by his grandchildren: Wesley, Sara, and Emily, as well as his eight great-grandchildren, who brought him joy, laughter, and a renewed sense of legacy.

Family and friends are invited to gather on Sunday, December 7, at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. A memorial gathering will take place from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by Words of Remembrance at 12:00 PM, during which loved ones will share memories honoring Dario’s remarkable life, service, and spirit.

Dr. Valcarcel leaves behind a legacy defined by education, curiosity, integrity, and love. His life’s journey enriched countless others, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
