Obituary of Frank Nelson Johnson

September 13, 1940 – December 1, 2025

Frank Nelson Johnson, affectionately known simply as Nelson, age 85, passed away peacefully on December 1, 2025, at Mountainside Skilled Nursing Facility after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Born on September 13, 1940, in Morton, Mississippi, Nelson was the son of Sylvester Johnson and Hattie Meadows. He later attended Mississippi State University before proudly serving his country. Nelson was a dedicated member of the United States Army, where he achieved the rank of Captain. His years of service reflected his sense of duty, discipline, and commitment to others.

On August 5, 1961, Nelson married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Sims. Together, they built a life rooted in love and devotion to family. Their marriage spanned more than five decades.

Nelson was a man of quiet joys and kindness. He had a deep affection for animals, especially his beloved cats and dogs, who were cherished members of his family through the years.

Nelson is survived by his children, daughter Ginger and her husband Lee, and son Barry; and his grandchildren: Collin and his wife Morgan, Molly, Asher, and Adam. He is also survived by his brothers, Bill and Ben. Nelson took tremendous pride in his family and the generations that followed him.

Nelson’s legacy will continue in the hearts of all who knew him.
