Obituary of Margot Adelaida Hernández

Margot Adelaida Hernández, 82 years old, of Pittstown, NJ, formerly of Newark, NJ, passed away on Tuesday January 16, 2024, with her loving daughter Yasmin by her side at the Hunterdon Medical Center.  She was born on June 11, 1941, in Victoria De La Tunas, Cuba, to her Lebanese parents Domingo Elnar and Caridad (née Abraham) Elnar.

Margot and her family left Cuba in 1962 and went to Spain prior to immigrating to the United States. Margot joined hands in marriage with the love of her life, the late Wilberto Hernández, Jr. on August 22, 1964, Margot cherished her time as a stay-at-home mom for her 3 beautiful children, Felipe, Margarita and Yasmin.  After her daughter Yasmin was born, Margot started a career as a teacher's aide in the Newark Public School System. She was able to enjoy her love of children and education.   Her career would span over 32 years, first working at Elliott Street School and then the Ridge Street School, she retired in 2006.

Margot devoted her life to her family, giving selfishly and showering them with love especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Spending time with them and showing them her love of music, arts and crafts and God meant the world to her.

Margot was an accomplished pianist who enjoyed classical and Latin music.  She also loved to cook for her family, meals that consisted of her Cuban and Lebanese culture, not to mention the great Italian cuisine.   A devout Catholic, Margot had great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and praying the rosary.  In her later years she would enjoy word find puzzles, coloring and recreational games.  Her beautiful smile and spirit will be deeply missed.

Margot will be forever cherished by her son, Felipe Hernández, Sr. and his wife Courtney MacEwen-Hernández; daughters, Margarita B. Hernández-Abeigon and her husband John Abeigon, Yasmin E. Hernández-Manno and her husband James A. Manno; sisters, Aida Martinez and Zenaida Guzmán and her husband Benjamin Guzmán; grandchildren, Felipe Hernández, Jr., Jacqueline M. Hernández, Jessica A. Hernández and William J. Manno; great grandchildren, Aaliyah Arroyo, Gabriel Hernández, Jeremiah Velazquez, Leila Hernández and Jade Hernández and nieces and nephews.  

Margot was predeceased by her husband Wilberto Hernández, Jr., sisters, Oneida Terra and Emelia Ferreira; brother in law Hugo Martinez. 

Visitation for Family and Friends will be held on Friday, January 19th, from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at the Martin Funeral Home, located at 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ 08809. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Saturday, January 20th at 10:00 AM at Saint Catherine of Siena Church, 2 White Bridge Road, Pittstown, NJ 08867.
