Obituary of Harold E. Conner

Conner, Harold Edwin, 81, passed away at RWJ hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on February 11, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Oldwick, New Jersey on January 24, 1935 to Bertha (Vroom) and Charles Conner. He attended local schools and served two years in the U.S. Army. Following an honorable discharge, he returned home and met his future wife Barbara (Major) at a local square dance. They were married April 27, 1963, and resided in Somerville, later Bridgewater, before moving to Bethlehem Township, New Jersey their current home. Harold attended Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, New Jersey with his family. Harold was a true craftsman working in the construction trade, he had his own business many years before retiring. Even after retirement, he would repair roofs, paint, and even remodeled his kitchen two years ago. Harold diagnosed automotive problems over the phone with his oldest grandson, worked on home projects (particularly the garage door) with another grandson, and sewed Scout badges on his youngest grandson's shirt. He was a master of many trades Harold always put his family first in his life. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and will truly be missed by his family and all who knew him. Predeceased in death by his parents, Bertha and Charles Conner, his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Walter and Ellen Major, his brother Walter Conner, his brother-in-law Howard Metzler and his daughter, Jennifer Conner Kreis. After her death, Harold and Barbara reared her two children. He is survived by his wife and best companion, Barbara, his daughter Cynthia Nileski and son-in-law Robert of Somerset, New Jersey; his son Christopher and daughter-in-law Jennifer of Alburtis, Pennsylvania; his six grandchildren: Anthony Kreis, J.D., of Atlanta, Georgia, Amanda Kreis of Flemington, New Jersey, Stephanie Nileski and Kimberly Nileski of Somerset, New Jersey, and Zachary Conner and Andrew Conner of Alburtis, Pennsylvania, and his great-grandson, Carter Bulik of Flemington, New Jersey. Harold is also survived by his brothers Wilbur Conner of Oldwick, New Jersey, James Conner and his wife Lola of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, his sister-in-law Lois Conner of Ocala, Florid and his sister-in-law Patricia Metzler of Branchburg, New Jersey and many nephews and nieces. A gathering of friends and family will be on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31 . , Clinton, New Jersey 08809 from 4 until 7 PM. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, N.J. followed by Entombment at Saint Mary's Mausoleum, Alpha, New Jersey.
