Obituary of Gregory T. Sharkey

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Gregory Sharkey announces his passing on November 8th 2016. Greg was a twenty-six year veteran of the Middlesex Borough Police Department, from which he retired with the rank of Captain. Since retiring from the force Greg had been working with the Federal Government for the past 14 years. The son of the late Francis and Betty (Sullivan) Sharkey, he is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Donna, whom he married the 20th of June 1987. Together they had two children, son: Michael who is currently engaged to Marissa Sherman; and daughter: Kimberly who married her husband Maxwell Connolly in 2012. Greg also leaves behind his sister and her husband, Jackie and Mike Brady; along with a brother, Don Sharkey, and in-laws, Robert and Eleanor Burrows. Friends and family will gather on Friday, November 11th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Martin Funeral Home 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. A mass will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 12 at the Church of St. Ann, located at 6 Church Street Hampton NJ and will be officiated by Father Michael Saharic. Burial will follow immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Greg's name, may be made through, In Memory Of for Saint Philip and James School, at www.inmemoryof-memorial.org. If you prefer you may also mail a check payable to In Memory Of and send it to P.O. Box 5472, Charlotesville, VA 22905. Greg took great joy in nature and spending quality time with his family. He often went on camping trips with family and friends, kayaking, fishing and doing his best to feed his loved ones the most delicious food he could prepare. Greg was a wine and cigar aficionado and could be often found enjoying them in his home – made “lounge”. Greg was one of those rare individuals who spent his life giving to others. He gave without hesitation and made the lives of those around him. His words, though few, carried weight beyond measure. A quiet professional has gone to rest, and in his wake the noise is deafening.
