Obituary of Patricia Ann Cox Garvey

Patricia Ann Cox Garvey transitioned from this life on Friday April 19th, 2019. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday May 9, 2019 from 4-7pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ. Mass will be celebrated on Friday May 10, 2019 at 10am at St. Catherine of Siena, 2 Whitebridge Road, Pittstown, NJ. Patricia was born on March 26, 1941 in New York, NY the only daughter of the late William Cox and Margit Hansen Cox, and sister of the late James Cox and Billy Cox. Pat, known as Patsy to many childhood friends, was raised in Ridgewood, Queens NY and attended St. Matthias School and Our Lady of Wisdom High School before graduating as an RN from St. Vincent's Hospital in NYC in 1961. She raised three children with her husband Martin in Richmond Hill, Queens NY where they lived for over 25 years in a house they adored, where they loved hosting family and friends, holidays and parties, meetings and backyard BBQs. Pat loved creating a beautiful home and making people feel welcome when they came for a visit. Pat loved the beach and the mountains equally and the family spent many summers in Southern California and on Martha's Vineyard and much time in fall and winter in Williamstown, MA and Southern Vermont with dear family and friends. Family vacations were some of her most treasured memories, as can be seen in the thousands of photos she carefully cataloged through the years. She was a wonderful mother and beloved wife and partner. After raising her family, she went back to school and received her BS in 1990 followed by her MS in Family Counseling, both from Iona College in New Rochelle, NY. Patricia was a lifelong learner and her desire to care for people was the underlying theme of her life. She loved the experiences she had with her husband Martin as leaders in the Marriage Encounter in the 1970's and 80's, where they touched many lives and made some truly dear family friends. They moved to Vermont in the mid 1990's and Pat worked with the Council on Aging, the Women's Small Business Project and at Positive Changes with her dear friend Deborah Lindholm, where she helped many people make positive shifts in their lives. She also loved her work with her clients in private practice as a family counselor and Reiki master. Pat made helping people her life's work. Pat graduated from The Stillpoint School of Integrated Life Healing in New Hampshire and completed her practicum to become a certified Intuitive Healer and Spiritual Mentor. She was recognized for her love of the work, her delight and ability in working with others and her dedication to the mission to spread more love in the world. Director Meredith Young Sowers, invited her to become her Associate Director, where she remained through 2008 when they moved to NJ to be closer to family. Meredith was her mentor and dear friend and her work with Stillpoint was among Pat's most cherished. In addition to being a wonderful wife and mother, she was a beloved Mimi to seven grandchildren whom she adored - Matthew, Liam, Emma, Riley, Olivia, Bennet and Cooper. She was especially fond of beautiful walks and car rides that ended with a stop for ice cream. Patricia loved being with family and friends, she loved being outdoors appreciating the beauty in nature and finding stillness in prayer and meditation. She loved to dance, especially the Lindy to big band music with her husband Martin. She loved to read and journal and she had a great sense of humor. Pat loved to laugh and her smile could light up any room she was in. We believe that smile will shine on all of us for always, along with the unconditional love she showered on us all. Patricia is survived by her husband of 57 years Martin Garvey, her son Martin H. Garvey, her daughter Susan Eisenbeil and husband Brad and her daughter Jennifer Garvey-Blackwell and husband Tim, as well as her seven beautiful grandchildren, beloved sisters and brothers in law, nieces and nephews and their children and cherished friends. Rest easy and fly free on your new adventure Patsy. We love you to the moon and back, always and forever. "Follow your bliss... where your deep sense of being is from, where your body and soul want to go. When you have that feeling, stay with it, and don't let anyone throw you off...and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be." -Joseph Campbell
