Alice Thompson Franey
1928 - 2014
Born in Lima, Peru, daughter of Vincent & Angelica Thompson, she is survived by her husband, George Franey. Alice immigrated to the United States in 1931, accompanied by her mother, three brothers and sister by steamer via the Panama Canal to join her father, who had earlier arrived in New York to work as a master clockmaker & jeweler. They settled in Brooklyn, NY and lived in Coney Island for several years and later moved to Ocean Avenue.
She attended Erasmus Hall HS and Fashion Design of Brooklyn and her career as a seamstress and fashion designer expanded from 1951 thru 1976. She later opened her own shop "Alicetta Dresses" in 1965 and retired in 1994 to Lebanon Township, New Jersey, where she became an active member of the Clinton's Lyons Club and St. Joseph Catholic Church in High Bridge, NJ.
Alice's visitation will take place on Saturday, March 1st from 2:00 to 8:00 pm and again on Sunday, March 2nd from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. There will be a funeral mass on Tuesday, March 4th at 9:30 am at St. Joseph's RC Church, 59 Main Street, High Bridge, NJ. The interment will immediately follow at St. Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.
