To My Big Brother,
I will always love you so much and will miss you terribly. I wish you didn't have to go so soon. I thought there would be so much time for us to continue to grow closer. I never got to tell you that I long ago forgave you for all the things you did to me tease me when we were growing up. I didn’t tell you I loved you enough…but I know you would have looked at me with a silly grimace if I did tell you and shake your head at me or you would have given me a patronizing, “yes I know…thank you very much” and ended by making fun of me with a pat on the shoulder or two. You were one of the funniest people I knew and the best storyteller ever. You could make the most mediocre story exciting and have people falling over laughing. I will always remember how proud I was of you every time we sat with a group of friends and you started your stories. We had so much fun at the farm - what a wonderful playground we had growing up! You always won at man hunt because you would hide in the wettest and dirtiest places and Deb and I would never go there to find you. You were fun to be around and it was awesome watching you as a dad. You were such a good dad and spent so much time with your kids. You did so many fun things with them. You supported your family so well and set everyone up for success…and now you are gone and I am sad you will not enjoy any more sunny days tubing down the river with your boys or fishing with dad. I am glad you didn’t suffer and were able to die at home, but it was too soon for me – right on time for God I guess!

I had the pleasure of working with Walter at Interbake Foods for 10 years. On September 11 when the World Trade Center was attacked I was unable to get home to New York, Walter let me stay at his house that night and I will never forget he did that for me. One of my favorite lines of Walters was "don't set yourself up for failure" a line he used on me a few times. He will be deeply missed

Not only did I have the pleasure of working with Walter, I had the honor of being Walters’s friend. Walter had the ability to turn a boring day on the water to the funniest fishing trips I’ve ever experience. Walter’s positive thinking was a one of his greatest
Gifts he taught me. Walter always brought out the best in people. I know if there’s a

Walter, I am so sad that you had to leave us. I am sure you never knew how much of an impact you (and your family) had upon my life. There were several things you said and did for me when I was struggling all those years ago that eventually helped me change my direction. I guess I always thought there would be time to say thank you. As far as I'm concerned you were what every man should strive to be. No doubt Heaven will be a better place for having you. I am not capable of understanding why you were taken away so soon. My heart hurts for your family, if it were possible I'd trade places with you so that you could still be with them. I know you gave them everything they'll need, they're going to be just fine. Please keep an eye on us down here. I'll see you later. P.S. Please don't be angry with me for driving on your grass.

Dear Tina, Walter, William and Stephanie.
I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful your husband and Dad was. Our friendship revolved around scouting and that gave me the opportunity to see the kind of man that he was. He worked hard, never complained and was always smiling.
I truly believe that, in his day to day life, Walt was a real hero. It takes courage to get up every morning, to give up the things that you want to do and to do the things that you have to do. Walt did that for the family that he loved and I believe that he will be rewarded for it.
I admire him and will miss him.
May God give you a piece of his courage and happiness in his wonderful memory.

I already wrote a condolence here when I first heard of Walter’s passing but after reading all the condolences and memories from everyone over the past week it has really touched me and I wanted to write again. I met Walter when we were in Kindergarten in Bailey school. We graduated 8th grade together in 1983. We went to different high schools so I didn’t see him much after that. I ran into him a few times when he worked at the Shop Rite in downtown Bayonne. I remember vividly the last time I saw him. I mostly remember his smile. He was always so kind to me. He was always someone that I would’ve loved to see again but our lives took different directions. He obviously moved out of Bayonne so I never saw him again. I’m sad to know I’ll never get that chance to see him again. I haven’t seen Walter in so long so it surprises how sad I’ve been since I found out about his passing. I think about it everyday. I can only imagine how all of you are feeling. To Walter’s mom...what you wrote nearly broke my heart in two. I can only imagine the pain you are feeling. I have a son and would never want to go through what you are now. My prayers are with you. I learned a lot about Walter by reading here this past week. It seems to me he turned out to be a wonderful person just as I figured he would be. He was so smart in school. That is one thing that I remember well. I could probably go on for days with all of the memories that have been coming back to me this past week but I just wanted to let all of Walter’s family know that there are so many of us that are praying for you and thinking of you at this time. God Bless you.

On Friday I drove in to McDonough from German way and passed Stillman Road to Five Streams and thought of Walt on his motorcycle. Further, I passed the farm and glanced over the field to the special place he liked to camp, the house and barn...so many memories of good times had. I remember thinking that I should take my kids down to five streams and do some exploring, like we used to do. Hiking, bon fires and all the freedom of just being kids. It was a great place to grow up. How could I have known you were gone on to heaven ahead of us all at that moment? Save some street signs for your childhood friends. wow. I can see you now debating with God about coming back and God saying, "Well Walter, you have a point." I know you weren't ready, but I am glad you died perfect. I expect to see you soon because knowing you, you will analyze how to get back and tell everyone you are okay. You don't have to debate, enjoy the party and your new life. Go sing Alabama songs to the angels and make them fall off their clouds laughing. I am really confused as to why you left, because you are such a good man and enjoyed life more than anyone. Of all people, I pictured you telling stories on your rocking chair in your old age. Go say hi to Bill Suits, I know he is waiting to see "the Fonz". We will be okay, for we learned from you the most precious gift, HOW TO LIVE EVERYDAY TO THE FULLEST. You truly are my idol and I could write for hours on your smile and stories and inventions... I love you walter. As of today, you have now made my life even better, because I will now wake up tomorrow and live and be happy like you. Sweet dreams. Until that 4th of July when we meet again. As sad as I am I also recognize how lucky I have been to have had you as a close friend. You’ve enriched my life, Thank You. Even more than I mourn your passing I celebrate your memory and my fortune for having known you.
Some things about you I’ll never forget; Road trips to nowhere, Englander nights, “crabbing” in the Newark bay, bumpkin rap, arguing about music (and politics and science and…), the way your face would light up when you talked about Tina and the kids, our camping trips-those were some of the best times of my life, and the way you used to punch me in the arm (it felt like getting smacked with a ball pein hammer) – I’d trade that pain a million times over for what’s in my heart now. Tina, Walt, William and Stephine,
I am very sad about the loss of my friend. Words can not express how sorry I am. Walter has always been a role model for me. I have always admired his drive towards getting things done morally and responsibly. Death is a part of life and we can not change that. If you guys need anything, please let me know anyday or anytime. Love, Don

The Gonsiewski Family.
My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you at this time. I had the pleasure of working with Walter for 10 years at Interbake Foods. I also have some fond memories of fishing Lake Aeroflex and a fishing trip to Canada with Walt. What Walt has taught his boys in 12 years is more then most fathers will teach their children in 50 years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.My thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time. May he rest in Peace in Heaven.

I am so saddened to hear of Walter's passing. My deepest sympathies to the Gonsiewski family. Walter and I attended Bailey School in Bayonne together, and I have many happy memories of fun times we shared. Although we hadn't seen each other since then, he will always hold a special place in my heart. God bless Walter, God bless and be with the Gonsiewski family now and always.
