Obituary of Irving Djalmar Zuschlag

Irving Djalmar Zuschlag A Service for Mr. Irving Djalmar Zuschlag, 87 of Belvidere, New Jersey will be on Thursday morning, April 20th at 11:30 am at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. The Visitation for Irving will also be on Thursday from 9:30 am to the time of the Service. Burial will be at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ. Mr. Zuschlag died April 18th at Hunterdon Medical Center, Hunterdon County, Flemington, NJ. He was an infant survivor of the 1918 influenza pandemic and lived a long, healthy and hearty life for many years. Irving was a determined lung cancer survivor/fighter until he succumbed to the disease in 2006. Born in Kearny/Irvington, son to Djalmar and Martha Hansen Zuschlag of Copenhagen, Denmark, Danish immigrants to the USA in the 1900s, on July 9, 1918. He resided with his family in Newark, Fairfield, West Caldwell before 1980 and moving to Califon, Glen Gardner, Whitehouse Station during the last 25 years, and more recently Belvidere, NJ. Mr. Zuschlag was employed as a Machinist-Tool and Dye Worker for Weston Electrics in Newark, NJ for 25 years. He retired from the company in 1982. He was a member of the Tewksbury and Hunterdon Seniors and VFW Auxiliary Post #519 in Glen Gardner, NJ. Serving our country in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945. Mr. Zuschlag traveled the South Pacific on the Navy Aircraft Carrier Sampson. Surviving are daughters, Nancy Hansen Zuschlag of Denver, Colorado and Karen LaPorte of Danville, Pa. and a son, Richard of Belvidere, a younger brother Kenneth Zuschlag of Corvalis, Oregon, several nieces and nephews of Oregon, North Carolina and California and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren in New Jersey. His loving wife, Carmen D. Zuschlag, survives her husband in Belvidere, NJ.
