Obituary of Michael John Wachna
Michael John Wachna, age 73, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2020 at Calvary Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Michael was born on November 12, 1946 in Brooklyn, NY. He is predeceased by his mother Alice (McCuelpin) Rugolo and sister Lorraine. Michael moved to Staten Island in the '90s and continued to live there until recently.
Michael was profound in wisdom. He took pride in his work as a carpenter and was extremely proud of his sobriety. He would have celebrated his 25th anniversary in July. In his free time, Michael loved listening to jazz and doo-wop music. He enjoyed reading suspense and thriller books as well as watching football. Michael loved walking and taking in the fresh outdoor air as much as possible. He was known for wearing his fisherman style hats, so much so that his friends nicknamed him "Mike the Hat".
Michael is survived by his beloved daughter Gina Lapoff; son-in-law Jonathan Lapoff; grandchildren, Alyssa, Jonathan, Thomas, and Katelyn; sisters, Patricia Wachna and Marie Elena Vitalone; brother Frank Rugolo. He will be missed by countless friends and as a sponsor to many in the AA family of Staten Island.
Due to the circumstances all services will be held privately. Those who wish may visit his final resting place at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Annandale, NJ. Memorial service will follow at a later date.
