So sorry to here of Bob's passing he was a good friend of my fathers, Joe Rankl. I remember how kind and helpful he was when my Dad was
home at the end of his life. He was a calming presence and he help put us all at ease and helped with what ever we needed. God bless.

The ultimate jokester, magician, and story teller-one who could capture an audience and a room with just the twinkle in his eye and the majestic boom of his voice. NJ’s thin crust pizza connoisseur, and Yankee radio’s biggest listener. Pop-pop, or “Great’ Pop-Pop as my kids call you, for these ways and more, you truly are great:
For the hours spent travelling to Pennsylvania to attend yet another elementary grandparent day chock full of school cafeteria sloppy joes, book fairs, and dangerously small chairs. Or the high school musicals that you frequented which featured your grandchild for approximately 4 minutes of the 1 hour 29 minutes of running time.
There you were. Always our cheerleader, rooting for us. If Pop-Pop knew you enjoyed something, he made a point to remember it and dote on it. The cupcakes that he notoriously delivered upon each visit, were the result of our pure delight and amazement to see whipped icing twice the size of the cake itself spectacularly fashioned into the likes of Big Bird & Cookie Monster . Once he discovered Emily had an affinity for pigs, we would randomly find packages delivered filled with piggie knick knacks of every kind.
For the memories of our summers in Cape Cod that will stay with us forever. Whether you were cracking crabs, or cracking ribs, there was always fun to be had and stories to be told. For your knee jerk jealous reaction whenever anyone mentioned anything about hair. For the moments of sharing a diet pepsi and utz pretzels later, some calamari and Carlo Rossi.
For the beautifully written notes in our birthday cards that you made sure we received each year without fail, and for the great memories of Christmases at Pop-Pop and Bernadettes. I suspect you may have had some help from a most astute secret shopper. What a beautiful union you created and fostered together with the promise to care for each other until the end.
Thank you for your limitless support as we embarked on new milestones in our lives, for setting the bar so high, and for your fighter's spirit that lives on in each of us.
You will be sorely missed, remembered, and prayed for our dear, and devoted patriarch. We love you.

Unckle Bob never told “jokes” they were always “stories” that made you laugh! So many punch lines came rushing back to my memory upon his passing. I have been telling his “stories” for as long as I can remember and will continue in loving memory.

Bob was a good neighbor and a loving friend. My husband Joe and Bob spent most days having lunch together and many of those lunches included Bob’s sons. Not to mention the 5 o’clock cocktail parties we used to share. I hope when Bob and Joe meet again, they have lunches like they used to have. We were always so grateful for Bob’s friendship. Peace at last, Bob.

This wonderful man was an important part of my late teenage years when he managed the Clark Pool and hired me as a lifeguard. He inspired me to have self-confidence and never take myself too seriously. He modeled this through his own behavior as he managed his young staff throughout the three summers I spent there. Bobby was quick-witted and smart, often competing with me playfully over who would be the first to grab the Star Ledger and do the cryptoquote. The memories of this time are some of the best in my life. I was fortunate enough to have spent time with Bobby not so long ago, sharing laughs and reminiscing at a family barbecue at his niece Mary Kate's house. His beautiful extended family stands in legacy to his generous and unforgettable spirit.

So sorry to learn of Bob’s passing. He and I worked together when I became the Elizabeth School District’s Supervisor of English. He was an outstanding principal who earned the respect of students, teachers, and co-workers. He had a terrific sense of humor, and we shared many laughs together. Bob was a baseball trivia expert who challenged me with tough questions from that area. I had the good fortune to be the English teacher at Elizabeth High for his son, Leo, who was a fine student. Bob will be remembered by me as a tough, no nonsense guy who always had a quick joke and a gleam in his eye. RIP, Bob. Richard Long
