Obituary of LaMae K. Perez

LaMae Karen Perez, (nee Fegely) of Clinton Township, New Jersey peacefully entered into eternal rest on Saturday, October 9, 2021 surrounded by her family at her home. She was born in Quakertown, Pennsylvania on December 1, 1945 to Paul and Mary (Yoder) Fegely. She attended elementary school in Coopersburg, PA. After she graduated from Southern Lehigh High School, she went on to Kutztown College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.

She married the love of her life, Isidoro Perez and taught elementary school in Pennsylvania until she moved to northern New Jersey with her husband. She continued her teaching career in Essex County, NJ until they began their family.

Needlecraft was one of her favorite pastimes and her love for this hobby lead her to get into the business. She purchased and operated an established needlecraft shop for 8 years in Bloomfield before moving to Hunterdon County. She was also an avid gardener taking pride in her flowers and garden.

LaMae was very active in church, including playing the organ while in high school. She volunteered to teach CCD for many years both in Bloomfield and in Hunterdon County. A member of Immaculate Conception Church in Annandale, she participated in many ministries including Altar Rosary Society, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Book Club, Bible Study, and Women’s Cornerstone. She also became an Extra Ordinary Minister of the Eucharist and helped with the Women’s Prison Ministry.

Always interested in genealogy, LaMae assisted other genealogists by publishing a book documenting the burials at Blue Church Cemetery in Coopersburg, PA as well as transcribing records for St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Mertztown, PA. Her research led to finding her ancestors who came to the colonies pre-Revolutionary War. She became a member of the Old White House- General Frelinghuysen- Colonel Lowrey Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution where she served as the Chapter Chaplin for three years. She also was a member of the Lavallette Yacht Club where she enjoyed sailing with her children and grandchildren.

LaMae traveled with her family to countries in Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean and enjoyed sailing vacations in the British Virgin Islands. Family vacations with her children and grandchildren have been the most enjoyable for her.

LaMae is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 54 years, Isidoro; daughter, Monica Sharp and her husband, Doug of Clinton Township; and Matt Perez, and his wife, Finuccia Perez of Linwood, New Jersey. She doted on her five grandchildren: Benjamin Sharp, Stephanie Sharp, Isabella Perez, Jonathan Perez, and Matthew Perez.
