Al was here when we moved into the neighborhood nearly 39 years ago, so a light has gone out literally as well as figuratively. Now that he's gone , I realize how I was always subtly aware that Al was watching over us, sort of the neighborhood caretaker. He was a reliable constant, always having a tidbit of news or a laugh to share. He was tough, proud, independent, upbeat, and courageous. We shared a love of our dogs, chipmunks, groundhogs, and the plant by his porch that made it through each winter. I'll miss his car cruising up beside me while I head out for my walks. Godspeed, Good Neighbor.
