Obituary of Daniel Joseph Chiego, Sr.
Daniel Joseph Chiego, Sr., at 92 years of age and a 24 year resident of Hunterdon County, died Sunday, July 26, 2009. He was born in Newark, New Jersey and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Chiego of Newark. He was third youngest of ten children. He is pre-deceased by eight of his siblings: Dr. Bernard Chiego, Reverend Sebastian John Chiego, Jane Tischio, Michael J. Chiego, Joseph J. Chiego, William J. Chiego, Sr., and Vincent A. Chiego. His dear sister, Florence Russo of Upper Montclair, New Jersey is the only surviving sibling of the original ten. He loved his siblings and their children and was happiest when they were gathered together to sing the Irish songs that they were raised on.Daniel was married to the late Josephine Santoro Chiego. He is survived by their children, Dr. Daniel J. Chiego, Jr., Susan Mary Morris, (William J. Morris, Jr.), and James Anthony Chiego, (Lee Ann Chiego). He was very proud of his six grandchildren, Ryan John Morris, Nicole Leigh Morris, Daniel Joseph Chiego III, Nadia Chiego, Carly Ann Chiego, and Julie Marie Chiego. He recently was the proud great grandfather of two great grandsons, William Marshall Morris and Anthony Lee Morris.Daniel was a graduate of Barringer High School where he excelled in academic independent studies graduating at age fifteen, having skipped both fourth and seventh grades in his early years of education. He attended Newark College of Engineering and worked in the field of engineering at the General Instrument Corporation of Elizabeth, at Pyrofilm Electronics of Whippany, and American Cyanamid of Bound Brook, New Jersey.Daniel, affectionately known as "Danny Boy" will be most remembered for his joyous love of children, his passion for poetry, fine literature, music, his beautiful vocals, and his obsession with all sports, especially the New York Yankees. His grandchildren will remember him especially for those special moments when they were fishing, antiquing and playing cards together. His humor, ever ready smile and his singing will live on in all who knew him. The Visitation will take place on Wednesday, July 29th from 5:00 to 9:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. There will be a Funeral Mass on Thursday, July 30th at 10:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale, NJ 08801. The Interment will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton, NJ.
