Obituary of William T. Murphy
William Thomas Murphy, 81, of Cape Coral, FL and Clinton Township, NJ, passed away on March 1, 2010. He was born February 11, 1929 in Queens, NY, the son of William J. Murphy and Elsie Murphy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Jean Olash Murphy, and by his four children: Jean Marie (David) Callihan of Dryden, NY; Dr. Carol (Andrew) Murphy-Silva of Davie, FL; Patricia (Paul) Roder of Red Bank, NJ; and William F. Murphy of Clinton Township, NJ.
He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary O'Brien, his brother, John Murphy, his sister-in -law, Roberta Murphy, and his brother-in-law, Dr. Albert Olash and wife Jane. He also leaves 5 grandchildren: Genevieve Silva, Catherine and Christopher Roder, and Sean and Sky Murphy.
He graduated from Brooklyn Tech High School in 1947 and from the University of Notre Dame in 1951. He then received his Master's Degree in Business from Columbia University, NY. He proudly served in the United States Navy. Most of his career was involved in research administration at Merck and Co., and Ortho Diagnostics, Johnson and Johnson, from which he retired. Bill was a loyal follower and supporter of the Notre Dame football team throughout the years, and an avid sailor who enjoyed cruising on his sailboat. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
There will be a Funeral Mass on Friday, March 5th at 9:00 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 59 Main Street, High Bridge, NJ 08829. Viewing Hours will be on Thursday, March 4th from 2-4 pm and from 7-9 pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. The Interment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Hanover Twp., Pa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Catholic Medical Mission Board, 10 W. 17th St., N.Y., NY 10011-5765.
