Obituary of Bonnie Lou Shafer

Bonnie Lou Shafer, 74, of High Bridge, passed away Saturday, October 1st, 2022 with her daughter and close family by her side. 

Bonnie was born to the late Forest and Zelma (Darlington) Sypolt in Pittsburg, PA. on December 19,1947. She grew up in a Christian home of a Nazarene Faith, with her late sister, Carol, and late brother, David. 

Bonnie continued her Christian up-bringing through her adolescence and went on to attend Eastern Nazarene College in Massachusetts, where she earned an Associate Degree and met the love of her life, Dennis Shafer, who she married September 19, 1970. Following her college years,in 1978, Bonnie found great success as a Senior Children’s book buyer at Baker & Taylor, located in Bridgewater, NJ, until she retired in 2013. Together, with Dennis, they devoted their life to raising two beloved children; Debra and Jonathan. Bonnie loved many activities with her children, including sports and amusement parks. She also enjoyed reading, shopping, interacting with children, spending time with her family and two grandchildren; Hiroshi and Myoah Lam. 

In her final days leading to her passing, she awaited the arrival of her third grandchild; Josephine Autumn Shafer, born Oct. 1, 2022 before peacefully passing away a few hours later. Bonnie and Dennis, after 52 years of marriage, have entered into Heaven, as Dennis sadly passed away five days after her. They will be forever missed by their children, Debra and her husband Edwin Lam; Jonathan Shafer and his wife Devon, as well as their three grandchildren; Hiroshi and Myoah Lam, and Josephine Shafer. 

*****A Celebration of Life to Honor Bonnie, will be held on Saturday, September 16th at 11:30 AM at South Ridge Community Church, 7 Pittstown Road, Clinton NJ 08809. Family and friends will be received starting at 11:00 AM.*****
