Obituary of Alicia D. Persson

Alicia D. Persson, 74, of Lakewood, NJ, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. She was born on August 11, 1948, in Jersey City, NJ, where she spent her formative years.

Alicia started her career at the Basking Ridge, NJ campus of AT&T. Alicia made a career transition to the financial industry. During this time, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Speech Communications and Poly Science from East Stroudsburg University at the age of 44. Alicia graduated Summa Cum Laude, achieving membership to Pi Alpha Sigma, a national political science honor society. After receiving her degree, Alicia continued working for large financial institutions until she retired in 2000.

Alicia always considered New Jersey her home but also spent time living in North Carolina and Florida. She possessed great faith and followed the teachings of Saint Francis of Assisi, notably on her property in North Carolina, where she raised and cared for numerous pets and animals. Throughout her life, Alicia was active as a Eucharistic Minister in the Catholic Church, bringing care and comfort to many people in their time of need. 

Alicia is survived by her loving son, Drew Persson and her granddaughter, Isabella Persson; her daughter, Jessica Smith and grandchildren Jeffrey Soehnelin, Ethan Smith, Cassidy Soehnelin and Camoryn Been. Also surviving are her beloved dog Hiro and her cat Frankie.

She is predeceased by her parents George and Dorothy Breuder.

Friends and relatives may gather with the family at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Rt. 31 Clinton, NJ 08809, on Friday, March 24, 2023, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm. Words of remembrance will be offered at 12:00 pm and interment will follow at the Spruce Run Cemetery in Glen Gardner, NJ. Please share condolences to the family at www.martinfh.com
