Obituary of William E. Henderson

William E. Henderson, 85, of Glen Gardner, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at his home on May 11th, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s. Bill was born on June 10th, 1937, in Flushing, Queens to the late Abram and Grace Henderson. His family settled in Glen Gardner when he was a young boy, allowing Bill to attend the local elementary school and North Hunterdon High School.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served his country from 1955 to 1959, earning the rank of Corporal before his honorable discharge. Shortly thereafter Bill married the girl up the street-his beloved wife Carole A. Weber. They stayed in their hometown and raised their children William, Debra, and Joseph.  Bill retired from Texaco Refinery as a Control Technician in New Castle, Delaware when he was only 57 years old, allowing him to enjoy many years of his retirement with his family, who adored him.

Bill was quick-witted and loyal, loving his wife, children, and everyone he knew. Bill was the type of man you would want as a friend or a neighbor. He would do whatever he could to help anyone who needed it. Bill was also a member of the Glen Gardner Fire Department and served as Chief before he eventually went inactive.

Bill loved to be busy and enjoyed morning coffees with the guys at Shannon’s General Store, early morning golf dates with his “other son” Hot Rod, checking on sick friends or their widows, as well as gardening, hunting, fishing, bowling, and golfing.

William is survived by his cherished wife of almost 63 years Carole A. Henderson, beloved sons William (Jan) and Joseph (Margarida), daughter Debra, grandchildren Stephanie, Kimberly, Jenna, Kaitlin (Greg) and CJ. In addition, his twin brother and best friend Richard Henderson, sister-in-law Barbara Henderson, brother-in-law Carl Weber, sister-in-law Margaret Certalic and her husband Alfred, step brother Doug Martin and many loved nieces and nephews.

William was predeceased by his parents Grace and Abram Henderson, and his sister, Bette Heft.
