Obituary of Janet A. Border

Janet A. Border, 84, of Glen Gardner, NJ, passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at St. Lukes Hospital- Warren Campus. Janet was born on August 12, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Theodore and the late Florence (nee Smith) Hockenbury.

Janet was a lifelong resident of Glen Gardner; she would live and pass away in the home across the street from where she was born. Janet married her loving husband, the late Bill Border, on July 12, 1959. Together they would raise 3 children, daughters, Bonnie and Barbra, and son Billy. Janet personified what a “mom” meant, she put her children, grandchildren, and her family above all.

Janet had a great sense of humor and was always kidding around.  She took enjoyment in many things, antiques, flea marketing, flowers, camping, but she especially loved to dance. Even a few weeks prior to her passing, you could still see her dancing down the hall. She indulged her love of dancing and music by watching Dancing with the Stars, The Voice, and American Idol, never missing an episode.

Janet is survived by her; daughters, Bonnie Border and her companion Curt Daub and Barbra Spitale; son, William "Billy" Border and his companion Cindy Maiella; grandchildren, Cierra, Coral, Alexa and husband Jon, Michael and his family, great grandchildren Aubrey and Emily, and brother-in-law Richard Foley. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Janet was predeceased by her son in law, Lou Spitale; sisters, Louise Cregar and Dot Dabkowski; brothers, Alfred, Harold and Ted Hockenbury,  and sister-in-law Beverly Foley.

Relatives and friends may visit with Janet’s family on Thursday, May 25^th from 2:00 until 4:00 PM and 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ 08809. A service of remembrance will be held on Friday, May 26^th at 10:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Spruce Run Cemetery, next to her beloved husband Bill Border.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Glen Gardner Volunteer Fire Department.
