Obituary of Joel Masland

Joel C. Masland, age 91, of Annandale, NJ, passed away Sunday, September 3, 2023, at home.  Born July 3, 1932, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Harvey Masland and the late Luro (nee Burns) Masland.

Joel earned his bachelor’s degree at Temple University.  He went on to further his education, earning his master’s degree at Penn State University.  Joel worked as an electrical engineer for Bell Labs and related companies from 1960 until his retirement in 1990. During that time, he was awarded two patents for fiber optic communication.

Joel married his loving wife, Lois Macknik, on April 15, 2013.  He enjoyed flying small airplanes and RC planes for many years.  He was an avid listener of classical music and would often attend concerts throughout New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He liked to garden and had planted thousands of daffodils outside of his home.  He was a lover of cats and donated to several charities such as St. Hubert's Animal shelter, Tabby's Place, Salvation Army, and SAFE Hunterdon, throughout the years.

Joel is predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Luro (nee Burns) Masland.

Joel will be forever missed by his beloved wife, Lois Macknik; sister, Joy Powell; and his furry companion, Grace the Cat.

Family and friends are invited to visit with the family on Monday, September 11, 2023, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Rt. 31, Clinton, NJ, 08809.  A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at 12:00 pm at Goodwill Cemetery located at 31393 PA-35, McAlisterville, PA 17049.
