Obituary of Clifford Francis Schumann
Clifford Francis Schumann, age 88, of Pittstown, NJ, passed away Friday, February 9, 2024, of a broken heart. Born May 17, 1935, in Jersey City, NJ, Clifford was the son of the late Charles and the late Mary (nee McCarthy) Schumann.
Cliff was a 1953 graduate of Snyder High School. He went on to serve his country, attending the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis, graduating in 1960 with his bachelor’s degree in engineering. During his time at the USNA, Cliff was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. In 1959, Cliff was crowned the Brigade Welterweight Boxing Champion. Cliff went on to serve in the US Air Force for 20 years, achieving the rank of Major. He was the officer representative of the 1973 national champions Queens Guard Precision Drill Team of Rutger’s University. Cliff's intelligence and love for learning led him to further his education, receiving his master’s degree in electrical engineering from Baylor University, and then his master’s degree in mathematics from Monmouth College.
Cliff married his one true love, Lorraine Hunchak, on June 11, 1960. They spent 70 loving years together, more than 63 of them as husband and wife. Cliff and Lorraine raised five children, Ilene, Becky, Amy, Jon and Mark.
Clifford was an active member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. from 1965 to present. He enjoyed singing in his Barbershop quartets and choruses, an A Cappella group, as well as volunteering as a soloist and choir member at his church, St. Catherine of Siena. He stayed fit by working out, becoming the world record holder for his age group, (70-75 years of age) benching 205 pounds in the naked bench press. During football season, Cliff could often be found cheering for Navy football, not to mention the ferocious New York Giants, his favorite team.
Clifford's family was the most important thing in his life. He was a true family man. When Lorraine passed on September 9, 2023, Clifford was heartbroken, for his love for Lorraine knew no bounds. His family believes his heartbreak led to his passing, and that he is forever reunited with the love of his life.
