Obituary of Maryalice Godown Duke

Maryalice Godown Duke passed from this life on July 10, 2013 at Rolling Hills Care Center under Hospice care after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Maryalice was born October 13, 1925 in Trenton, NJ. She was the daughter of the late Alfonse Godown and the late Helen O'Brien Godown Matthews Bentz. She was a lifelong resident of Hunterdon County where she attended Clinton School and Clinton High School. Her mother was the first business manager of the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility. Maryalice lived and worked there before her marriage. Mrs. Duke worked tirelessly alongside her husband, F. Bennett Duke, as they built and operated Duke Veterinary Hospital in Clinton until his retirement. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, the beach, tennis and cooking. She was the backbone of her family and always supportive of her friends. She is survived by two sons, F. Bennett Duke Jr., and David Duke and his wife Kathleen Manning Duke; her daughter: Patricia Duke Force and her husband Daniel; her granddaughters, Meredith Force Cozzarelli and her husband James, Heidi Duke, Lindsay Force Hayes and her husband Sean, Megan Duke Wells and her Husband Timothy, Lila Duke Monden and her husband Cobey; and her grandson, Graham Duke; She also is survived by her two great-grandchildren, Taytum and Isaiah Monden. She was pre-deceased by her husband F. Bennett Duke, Sr., and her brother, Thomas Godown. Maryalice's Life Celebration will include visitation on Sunday, July 14th from 4:00 to 7:00pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am on Monday, July 15 at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Clinton, NJ.
