Edward Scollon

Obituary of Edward J. Scollon

Edward J. Scollon, age 69 of Hampton, NJ, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife Elizabeth (Rastetter) Scollon, daughter, Jennie Perka and husband Drew, and son William Scollon on Monday, March 26, 2024, at his home.

Edward was the loving and devoted husband of Elizabeth (Rastetter). They would have celebrated their 45th Wedding Anniversary on April 7, 2024 but have been together for 50 years since February 10, 1974 when he first asked her out.

He was born on April 22, 1954, in Astoria, Queens, NY, son of the late Edward F. and Anna (Miller) Scollon. He would have celebrated his 70th Birthday this April 22, 2024.

Edward grew up in Astoria and joined DA Sokol at the age of 10. He was a gymnast, an instructor, class leader, and eventually became the first President who was not of Czech or Slovak decent. It was there that he met his first love, Elizabeth. They were paired together for all the Special numbers and remained together through all the ups and downs in life.

He graduated from William Cullen Bryant High School in Queens, NY in 1973. He then went on to attend Queens College from 1974-1977. He left college to get a job at Chubb with his future father-in-law and worked his way up from the mailroom to become an Insurance Adjuster. He then went to work in several insurance companies as a Marine Underwriter. In October of 1989 the family moved to Westfield, NJ when he was excelling in his career. Then in 2002 the family moved to Hampton, NJ where Ed resided for the rest of his days. Eventually, Ed was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure and was getting dialysis for over the past 12 years. Through it all Ed enjoyed being at the New Hampton Inn and fishing on the Musconetcong River while his faithful dog, Shadow who would always go for a swim.

He meant so much to so many different communities, whether it was DA Sokol or his neighbors in Westfield or his friends from the New Hampton Inn or just family and friends. There has been such a huge out pouring of support for Ed when everyone found out about his failing health. I don't believe he really ever knew how many people truly loved him and how many people's lives that he's touched over the years. Whether it was to hear him tell one of his jokes or give you some good advice. He was always there for others. He will truly be missed by all.

We have been blessed with the presence of Edward in our lives. He will be deeply missed by his wife: Elizabeth (Rastetter) Scollon of Hampton, NJ, daughter: Jennie Perka and her husband Drew of Trinity, FL and his son: William Scollon of Alpha, NJ.
