Obituary of Bruce Edward Arnold
Bruce Edward Arnold, a brilliant and kind soul with a limitless curiosity for the world, passed away on January 16, 2025, with his children by his side. Though his absence leaves a profound void, those who loved him take comfort in knowing he is at peace, reunited with his beloved wife.
Born on August 24, 1944, in Brooklyn, New York, to Floyd and Edith Arnold, Bruce grew up in Cranford, New Jersey, where he graduated from high school in 1962. He earned his Bachelor of Engineering from Newark College of Engineering in 1969 and went on to complete his Master of Engineering at NJIT in 1975.
Bruce’s career as an electrical engineer was marked by innovation, dedication, and excellence. He began at Singer, where he earned a U.S. patent for his work, and later brought his expertise to Revlon. Throughout his life, Bruce formed lifelong friendships with colleagues and peers, enriched by his passion for knowledge and collaboration.
A pioneer in embracing technology, Bruce introduced computers into his home long before they became household staples. His love for sharing knowledge was evident in the many presentations he gave and the communities he joined, including the Amateur Computer Group of New Jersey, the C/C++ Users Group, the Hunterdon Computer Club, and his longtime participation in the Trenton Computer Fair.
In retirement, Bruce pursued his curiosity and creativity with woodworking, becoming an active member of NJ Woodturners. He dedicated his time to helping others at the Hunterdon County Senior Center’s computer help desk, always eager to lend his expertise and kindness to those in need.
Bruce’s talents and passions were as varied as they were remarkable. He was a skilled photographer, an enthusiastic bird watcher, a talented mechanic, a visionary designer, a computer programmer, a web designer, a woodturner, an avid science fiction enthusiast, a runner, and, above all, a lifelong learner. He approached every new endeavor with a wide, brimming smile and an unshakable joy for discovery.
Most importantly, Bruce cherished his family. He deeply loved his wife and children and embraced his role as “Big Dad” to his grandchildren. Bruce was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Eileen Arnold, as well as his brother, Floyd, and sister, Donna. He is survived by his children, Cindy Lapidus (Jack) of Scotch Plains, NJ, and Tim Arnold (Sonia) of Lake Hiawatha, NJ, and his five grandchildren: Jillian, Jeffrey, James, Finnegan, and Tristan. He is also survived by his loving sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews, who will forever cherish his memory.
Bruce lived a life of integrity, always taking time to gather his thoughts before speaking. He was a quiet soul with a genuine and compassionate heart and a unique sense of humor.
Bruce's life was a testament to the beauty of curiosity, the desire to help others, and the joy of embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
