Obituary of Lorenzo A. Cimirro
Lorenzo Antonio Cimirro died, on Friday, May 11th at his home in Pattenburg, NJ surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old. He was the son of the late Lorenzo and Teresa Cimirro.
He was born on July 7th 1924 in Newark NJ. He was raised in Orange NJ where he married his best friend's sister Elvira Perillo- who was also his neighbor. They raised 6 children. Lorenzo moved to Pattenburg, NJ where he resided for the past 43 years. He spent winters at his second residence in West Palm Beach, Fla. Lorenzo was very musically inclined, he played the accordion, the piano, the saxophone, the trumpet and the flute.
Lorenzo enlisted in the US Marine Corps in 1942. He was a Private First Class Marine in the 4th Division who was trained as a radio dispatcher. He was sent to California and then shipped to the Pacific to fight in World War II against the Japanese on the Islands of Tinian, Saipan, Roi Namur, and Iwo Jima. He received an honorable discharge in 1945. He worked at Bendix Corp. on an assembly line producing jet fighter parts for the military.
He was a truck driver at Rheingold Breweries in Orange, and then joined the NJ State Highway Patrol in 1972. He was promoted to Sergeant and later retired as a Lieutenant. During his tenure, he was awarded the honor and privilege as the personal driver and chauffer for the NJ Director of Motor Vehicles - June Strelecki. In his retired years, he opened his own business selling Sabrette Hot Dogs - at a truck parked in front of the Flemington Shop Rite.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Elvira Perillo, his son, Larry and his daughters; Teresa Williams, Irma Loihle & her husband, Ray, Virginia Hellman and Donna Pfeiffer & her husband, Vance. Additional survivors include his cherished grandchildren: Michael & Melissa Williams, Michelle Kush & her husband, Mike, Alison & Kristin Hellman, Danielle & Dana Pfeiffer and his great granddaughter, Grace Elizabeth Kush.
Lorenzo was pre-deceased by his son, Nicholas in 1973, his son-in-law, Norman Williams in 2008 and his sisters; Chancy DelVisco, Fay Martone, Olga Trignano, Enes Costanza, & Edith Rossi.
Lorenzo's Life Celebration Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 15th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. There will be a Funeral Mass held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 16th at Our Lady Of Mount Carmel Church, 103 S. Center Street, Orange, NJ #973-674-2052. The Interment will immediately follow at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ. All funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Martin Funeral Home of Clinton, NJ.
