Obituary of Viola S. Hodulik
Viola Hodulik of Clinton passed away on Monday December 15, 2014 at the age of ninety five. Viola was born in Newark, NJ February 6, 1919 to Susan and John Haviar. She was pre-deceased by her husband, George R. Hodulik in 1980, her brother Walter Haviar and grandson, Michael Carswell of North Palm Beach, FL.
"Vi" attended college before getting married and moving to Norton and then to Clinton. She and her husband owned several dairy farms in Clinton Township and Union Township. She loved the town of Clinton where she resided most of her life and raised her six children.
Although Vi loved traveling across the country with her family and yearly trips to Florida, her main focus was always her children and how much she loved them. She also loved her many pets over the years including her Corgis, Tessie and Vanna, and her cat, Oliver.
Vi was a long-time member of the Clinton Women's Club and also volunteered at the Red Mill Museum and the S.W.I.M. program at the YMCA. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Clinton.
At the age of thirteen, Vi and eleven of her classmates in Newark formed a club- the "Just Teens", which met regularly and kept in contact for the next Eighty-Two years.
After all her children were in school, Vi attended Churchman's Business School in Easton, where she learned office skills. She then joined the NJ Department of Corrections for the next twenty-seven years, serving as secretary to the Superintendent of Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility in Annandale.
She is survived by her six children: Dianne Carswell of North Palm Beach, FL, Carol and her husband Richard Messinger of Annandale; George Hodulik and his wife Betsy of Hampton NJ; Linda and her husband Morgan Hansen of Clinton NJ; Tom Hodulik and his wife Adrienne of Hampton NJ and Deborah and her husband Donald West of Stuart, FL. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday December 18, 2014 at 10:00am at the Immaculate Conception Church, Old Allerton Road, Annandale NJ. Internment will be held privately by her family.
