Obituary of Robert J. Schlenner

Robert J. Schlenner (Bob), 70, passed away on January 4, 2015 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. He was surrounded by his family and died peacefully after a long battle with complications from a Lung Transplant. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Rt. 31 South, Clinton, NJ 08809. Viewing will be held from 8 to 10:00 a.m. at the Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Ann's Church, 6 Church St. in Hampton, NJ. Interment will be private. Born in Philadelphia, PA, Bob resided in Long Valley, NJ for twenty eight years before moving to Washington, NJ nine years ago. Bob graduated from St. Joseph's University with a degree in Physics, and received a Master's in Mathematics from Drexel University. He was employed by the Department of the Army for over 40 years until he retired February 2007. He spent the majority of his government service at Picatinny Arsenal, where he was the Chief of Advanced Energy Armaments System Division. He was responsible for the concept research and development of advanced technologies for tactical military application. Bob directed a high priority homeland security program for the United States Army. Throughout his career, Bob had been responsible for many successful programs in support of the United States Army as well as other services. Bob was the son of the late Joseph E. and Catherine Schlenner, and the brother of the late Joseph Schlenner, Jr. He was the beloved husband of 46 years of Donna (Janthor) Schlenner, loving Father of Debra Smith and her husband Jeff of Powell, Ohio, Diane Barlow and her husband Tim of Port Murray, NJ, Robert Schlenner Jr. and his wife Renee of Townsend, DE. He will be deeply missed by his seven beloved grandchildren, Tyler, Emily, Brady, Dylan, Austin, Hayden and Julia.
