Obituary of Gladys E McLaughlin

Gladys Estelle McLaughlin, a 47 year resident of Tewksbury passed away peacefully, at the age of 93, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday April 18, 2015 at Hunterdon Medical Center after a brief illness. Born to Martin and Alice McCaffrey in Astoria Queens, NY. she married Charles McLaughlin in 1944 and lived in Metuchen, NJ. before moving to Pottersville in 1968. They were married for 51 years. As a young girl growing up in an all Irish neighborhood in Astoria, she managed to develop and pursue a love of horseback riding, as well as theater, which ultimately led to her actually performing on stage at Radio City Music Hall in a school play. Like many at the time, she was a fan of the "Big Bands" and was known to play hooky from Catholic school with friends to go and see the likes of Tommy Dorsey, Benny Goodman and Artie Shaw, when they were in town. After her marriage she became a devoted mother and homemaker developing a passion for cooking and reading. She looked forward to island cruises and a yearly pilgrimage to the Outer Banks of NC after Labor Day. Her proud Irish heritage infused every part of our family's lives, and finally fulfilling a lifelong dream trip to Ireland was a major highlight in her life. She is and will always be sadly missed, and we feel proud and blessed to have had her as our mother. Her easy laughter and love of family will stay with us forever. She was predeceased by her husband Charles and is survived by her two sons: Glenn McLaughlin of Madison Wi.,Gregg McLaughlin and his wife Monaliza of Sanford Fl. and daughter Gerri McLaughlin of Bucks County, PA. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren: Kyle and Keela, Sage and Cye.
