Obituary of Elizabeth S Eichen

Elizabeth "Betty" S. Eichen, age 87, of Glen Gardner, NJ, died April 29, 2015 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ. Elizabeth was born May 23, 1927 in Connecticut. She was a graduate of Trenton State College. Early on she enjoyed a career as a Kindergarten teacher and later a career as switchboard operator at the Hunterdon Medical Center until she retired in 1992. She was known as "the voice of Hunterdon Medical Center." After her husband, Jack Eichen, died, she came to live with her best friend, Carolyn Regan, until she could get back on her feet. Over 30 years later, she never left and became a beloved, adopted mom to Carolyn's daughters, Patrice Schreiber and Melissa Kenzari, and a second grandmother to their children; Grace Schreiber, Tayeb Kenzari, Adam Kenzari and Caroline Kenzari. Elizabeth had a love of reading, movies, restaurants and songs. She knew every restaurant in New Jersey and was always ready with a recommendation. Her drink of choice was an old fashioned or champagne. She was knowledgeable of all the words to songs of her day and nursery rhymes, particularly A.A. Milne who was her favorite. She loved Winnie the Pooh, and would recite it for pure pleasure. She loved to travel and had an insatiable love of learning. She enjoyed watching Jeopardy and golf. Elizabeth is predeceased by her son, Brandon Eichen, and her husband, Jack Eichen. Surviving Elizabeth are her son: Cameron Eichen and his wife Cara. Her daughter in law: Sharon Eichen. Her grandchildren: Cameron Eichen Jr. and Ceara Eichen as well as her step granddaughter: Kelly Newman. Her great granddaughter: Miani Lee. Her nephew: Phillip Shaw. Also surviving is her best friend: Carolyn Regan. A Memorial Gathering will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015, from 6:00-8:00pm with a 7:30pm service at Martin Funeral, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809.
