Obituary of Laura Edna Cregar
Laura "Edna" Cregar of High Bridge, NJ passed away at Hunterdon Medical Center on August 2, 2015. Edna was born in Clinton, NJ on September 26, 1919 to Herbert and Dorothy Apgar. She attended grade school at Bloomsbury and then Phillipsburg High School until she moved to Greenville, SC before her senior year. She then returned to New Jersey after a few years.
Edna married George Cregar on February 4, 1945. She traveled with him while he was in the Air Force. During that time, she filed at the base and packed parachutes. She even packed the parachute for actor Jimmy Stewart while he was stationed in Hobbs, NM. When they returned to High Bridge to settle down, Edna worked at Cregar Chrysler Plymouth and then as an aide at North Hunterdon High School and Voorhees High School.
She was active in the PTA and a Girl Scout troop leader. She was also an avid bowler, participating in several leagues, and often winning league high series and high game. Edna was also a member of the Order of the Easter Star Hobart Chapter 63 for over 50 years in High Bridge and a member of the Rebecca's in Clinton. She religiously did crossword puzzles every morning and crocheted blankets for friends, family and prayer shawls for her church.
Edna was predeceased by her husband in 2000. She is survived by her sister Marie Steele; two nephews Charles and William Steele; her daughter Lynn Hughes and her husband Craig Hughes; her daughter Donna Exley and her husband Michael Exley; her grandchildren Brian and Jennifer Exley; and her great-grandchildren Savannah and Emma Exley.
She was a loving sister, proud mother, doting grandmother and great-grandmother and a loyal friend. She will be interred in a private ceremony with her close friends and family at Grandin Cemetery in Pittstown. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her name to the George Cregar scholarship fund at the North Hunterdon Rotary. Donations can be sent to North Hunterdon Rotary Club P.O.
