Obituary of Dorothy S. Fuess

Dorothy Mae (Stewart) Fuess, age 89, of Clinton Township, New Jersey passed away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at Independence Manor, Flemington, NJ. Dorothy was born June 4, 1926 in Frankfort, NY, County of Herkimer, daughter of the late Ralph Leroy Stewart and Hazel May (Roulette) Stewart. Dorothy, or Dot as family and friends knew her, married Frederick J. Fuess on July 12, 1947 and celebrated 67 years of marriage when Fred sadly predeceased her in February of 2014. They resided in Clinton Twp., NJ for the past 20 years and, previous to that, lived in Norwich, NY, Fort Plain, NY, and Winston-Salem, NC. Dot earned a Registered Nursing degree in 1946 through the University of the State of New York and was working at Utica Memorial Hospital when Fred, fresh out of the Armed Forces and WWII, found her and swept her off her feet. Together they worked toward his engineering degree, raised four children, relocated several times, and when their work was done, settled back to travel and enjoy their large, loving family. Dorothy had a wonderful way with people – compassionate and intuitive. But it is her wisdom and sense of humor that will be most missed by those who loved her. They includedaughter Gayle (Fuess) Denne & husband, Edward of Clinton Township, NJ; her sons, Douglas Fuess & his wife, Laura of Marcellus, NY, Jeffrey Fuess & his wife, Cynthia of Pottstown, PA, and Martin Fuess & his partner, David Fleischman of Pittsburgh, PA; her grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, Carrie, Alayna, Laney and Mariah; her great granddaughter, Jocelyn; Dot's elder sister Jane (Stewart) Render of NC; and a host of nieces and nephews. Dorothy will be celebrated at a memorial service for family in Waterville NY in early October. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the American Cancer Society.
