Obituary of Gurney A. Sills

Gurney Alstead Sills went to be with his Lord, Wednesday September 14, 2016, at the age of 94, surrounded by loved ones. He is survived by his wife Corinne, children Kathy, Gregg, Justin, Timothy, and Joseph. Grandchildren Frank, Chris, Heather, Matt, Jen, Nikki, Jon, and Erin. Great Grandchildren, Melanie, Robert, and Emily. Great Great Grandchild Jordan. Gurney graduated from Bishop Loughlin High School, Brooklyn NY. He attended St. John's University, where he received both his undergraduate and Master's Degrees in History. He was the first Chief Life/Health Underwriter (representing all 50 states), for Allstate Insurance Company. A former member of Knights of Columbus, a lector "extraordinaire" at Immaculate Conception RC Church in Annandale NJ. He taught Church History at Immaculata High School for 5 years, a Eucharistic Minister, choir member at the 10:30 mass, lifelong student of church history (in all major religions) and Christian Theology. Gurney was a real "Wunderkind," when it came to knowing the answers to questions that stumped all contestants on Jeopardy. The "go to" guy for answering medical questions. Animal lover; especially dogs and deer (and cats, whose less than stellar dispositions made people either unable, or unwilling, to warm up to them). Gurney was a NY Times crossword puzzle aficionado. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday September 18, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ. A mass of Christian burial will be offered on Monday, September 19, 2016 at 10:00 AM, at Immaculate Conception RC Church, 316 Old Allerton Road, Annandale NJ. Interment will follow at the Immaculate Conception Church Cemetery.
