Obituary of Donald J. Vanderkooi

Donald J. Vanderkooi, age 81, of Toms River, NJ passed away Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Deborah Heart and Lung Center in Browns Mills, NJ. Donald was born May 10, 1932 in Muskegon, MI. He was the son of the late Clarence and the late Bernadine (Budzynski) Vanderkooi. Mr. Vanderkooi was a telephone repairman for Western Electric in Union, NJ for over 28 years before retiring. He served in the US Army from 1952-1954. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge in East Orange and Madison, NJ. He enjoyed fishing, crossword puzzles and watching sports. He also had an interest in computers. Most important, he was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Annette (Cianci) Vanderkooi, his dear son, Joseph Vanderkooi and his wife Phyllis of Mine Hill, NJ; his loving daughter, Susan Shanahan and her husband Joseph of Bethlehem Twp., NJ; his three cherished granddaughters, Jessica and Katie Vanderkooi and Kimberly DeMoura and her husband Lincoln and his sister, Linda Dean and her husband Dallas of Michigan. He was pre-deceased by an infant son, William and his brother, Lawrence Vanderkooi. Visitation will take place Sunday, October 20th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm & from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ. There will be a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 am on Monday, October 21 at St. Ann RC Church, 6 Church St., Hampton, NJ. Entombment will follow St. Teresa's Cemetery And Mausoleum on Passaic Ave. in Summit, NJ.
