Obituary of Norman S. Henry
Norman Stewart Henry died peacefully at home, Thursday, December 8, 2016
Born on January 8, 1930 in Hartford, CT, he was the son of Wilmer S and Mary MacDonald Henry.
While in the first grade, he and his family moved four times, eventually settling in Erie, PA. In 1946, the family moved to Jamesburg, NJ where he attended Jamesburg High School, graduating in 1948.
He worked at Freehold Transcript before and after joining the army in 1951.
Norm was stationed in New York City as a battalion master gunner. From there, He was sent to Korea until a cardiac event removed him from that position and got sent to Japan. He returned to Korea where he managed three NCO clubs and was a clerk typist. In December 1954 he returned to New Jersey, then attended Virginia Tech for three years.
Norm met and married Elizabeth Morse in 1961. They had one child, Elizabeth.
In 1969, He worked at Sears in Washington New Jersey as a store manager and moved to Clinton NJ.
He then worked for the State of New Jersey as well as the Clinton Point Theater where he was the manager from 1972 to 1983.
He was a proud member of the Disabled American Veteran Assoc. of Phillipsburg NJ
He was one of the first clients of Hunterdon Medical Centers cardiac rehab program and went faithfully for 25 years.
Norm was a proud member of the original parish of Church of the Holy Spirit, which is now in Lebanon, NJ
He married Patricia (Townsend) Henry in 1978 and they raised four children together.
Besides his wife, Norm leaves behind his daughter, Elizabeth Magnani and her husband Bob, of Flemington NJ, his daughter Theresa Mahovsky of Alberta, Canada, his son Blair Townsend and his wife Chandra of Vienna, Va. and his son Scott Townsend of Hackettstown, NJ. Norm also leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Emily, Dale, Carla, Nicole, Danielle, Alex and Devin. He also leaves two great-grandsons, Carter and Jake, and two great-granddaughters, Alexis and Sloane. He also leaves a niece, Robin and nephews Lou, Al, and Bobby Jim. He was also pre-deceased by his infant brother Alfred and two sisters, Adele and Ethel
A gathering of family and friends will take place on Monday, December 12, 2016 from 7:00pm until 9:00pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton NJ 08809. A funeral service with military honors, will be offered on Tuesday December 13, 2016 at 1:00pm at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 3 Haytown Road, Lebanon NJ. Inurnment will be help privately by the family.
