DIck was my roommate, along with Charles Barton or Bill Meyer, all four years of undergraduate studies at Yale. He was a steady, serious, upbeat companion throughout our 'ups and downs' there. I kept in touch with Dick over the years since then--he's sorely missed, indeed.
We want to express our sympathies to everyone on the loss of our family member. Dick was an amazing man. I loved his great humor at the recent family reunion. What a wonderful person. He will never be forgotten.

Dick was my roommate for our four undergraduate years at Yale; he has been a steady friend ever since. Condolences go to his children and friends. He was an insightful, thoughtful, and caring person--he'll be missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know and to work with him.
In our almost 5 years in our home we could not have asked for a better neighbor. He would often ask our son to water his plants for him when he went out on one of his grand adventures. Our son really enjoyed doing it. He also really loved asking our son about what he was learning on his guitar and drums. He always had a kind smile and a friendly wave to offer.
Please know that we are happy to help with anything the family may need during this difficult time.
We will truly miss having our wonderful neighbor.
As I get older, there seem to be fewer and fewer people around exhibiting a depth of character and intelligence one can truly respect and admire.
Dick’s passing really hit me. He was a brilliant, gentle man. I had the opportunity to spend time with him through the Institute of Local Government Attorneys. Those occasions were always a treat. There were so many things to admire about him. He was not only smart, but showed real class. All the attorneys at the firm were so fortunate to have had the opportunity to practice with and be guided by Dick.
So sorry for your loss. You are in my prayers.
