Richard Krauter

Obituary of Richard J. Krauter

Richard J. Krauter, age 77, of Asbury NJ, passed away Friday, January 12, 2018 at home.  Richard was born on October 3, 1940, in Elizabeth, NJ. He is the son of the late Richard and the late Kay (Rutkowski) Krauter. He is a graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School, in Elizabeth, NJ.

For almost 59 years, Rich was employed by Jay R. Smith MFG. CO., now a Member of Morris Group International.  Throughout his career there, Rich advanced from manufacturing, Polishing and Shipping Foreman to Director of Sales.  A colleague described him as the “conscience of Jay R. Smith.” Still another spoke of his legendary commitment to his customers, not only remembering their specific needs, but rejoicing in their own accomplishments.

Greg Pardue remembered the time his company received a special award at the National Sales meeting, “and Rich had tears in his eyes when he congratulated us. He was that proud.” It proved to be a consistent theme among colleagues and customers who spoke of Rich’s principles and his legendary punctuality — always early, always ready, always there. Whether at work or at home, these were the earnest qualities that were always Rich. He was the recipient of numerous service awards, yet he was especially proud of his bowling trophy housed in the lobby of Jay R. Smith.

Rich is a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, and Pop-Pop.  Love, and genuine concern for others, shone brightly in every visit, phone call or text. His sharp sense of humor and wit have brought countless smiles to the faces of his family and friends.  Rich showered his family with encouragement and support, in the form of sincere words, hugs, or two thumbs up.  He is a kind, genuine man who will be missed by many.

Rich is survived by his loving wife: Arlene (Cavuto) Krauter; daughters: Denise Krauter of Easton, PA, and Kim Krauter of Bethlehem, PA; son: Rich Krauter and his wife Juliana Malinverni of Pennington, NJ; stepson: Shawn Phillips and his wife Melissa of Cream Ridge NJ; sister: Helen Opalka and her husband John of Somerset, NJ; four cherished grandchildren: Evelyn and Emily Krauter, and Chase and Logan Phillips; brothers-in-law: Neil Cavuto and his wife Mary, and Ron Cavuto; niece: Tara Cavuto; and nephews: Jeremy and Bradley Cavuto.
