I'm stricken with sadness to hear of Chris's passing just a week ago from another student. I took his class back in 2017 during a hard time in my life and his class really helped distract me in a positive way. He was a very caring individual and a great professor. He taught me a lot and encouraged me to continue creating artwork. If it weren't for him and the other professors at RVCC encouraging me and being so great, I probably would have given up on art. I was really looking forward to someday taking another class with him. Sending prayers and love to his family. I'm sorry for your loss and I hope you find happiness and comfort in knowing that he impacted many lives in positive ways.

I am an RVCC student, and although I never took a class with Chris, I was fortunate enough to meet him. He was such a lovely, warm person, and such a dedicated and passionate teacher. The RVCC community is poorer for his loss.

Christopher’s family: I'm so sorry for your loss. I went through a similar situation and I was very helped by the hope that I found in the Bible in John 5:28, which says, "Do not amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out". I am sending you a link with more information on this hope.

I feel truly grateful to have known and been taught by Chris. Although it has been years since I attended RVCC I will never forget his brilliant methods and tools he used to help all of us artists to push the envelope and develop our abilities further. He was truly an inspiration and has greatly helped shape me into the artist I am today. May his soul be at peace and his wonderful memories and artwork live on forever.

Mr. Koep was someone that helped me when I was younger. He was my first formal painting teacher and helped me explore what art could be. I always thought he was a unique individual. In a way he made the whole classroom comfortable to be themselves. I had other classmates and friends that always held him with a positive regard. I still have paintings I made in his class; so in a way he will always be here.
May he rest in Peace

I too was shocked by the sudden news of Chris's passing. I studied under Chris for most of my time in RVCC, and I've seen Chris as a caring person, humorous & a very passionate artist. Chris taught his class how to be more expressive & experimental in making art pieces. He opened many students eyes to various ways to approach art, how to observe our surroundings & canvasses. The best thing from his courses were his critiques, he doesn't point out what's pretty or ugly, but instead the strength weaknesses & suggestions for improvement. Yet how he teaches his class & how he talks to us were heart warming & kind. I'm grateful to be taught by Chris Koep and sad to hear him go, but would never forget his teachings. Thank You, Chris, for being a great friend & a great professor.

We were talking with RVCC friends just minutes ago and were shocked to hear this. Chris was a very good and demanding teacher: I personally learned so much from him. And more importantly, he was a good man and the loss will be felt by all of us. We regret that we did not hear of his death until after the funeral. Please accept our most sincere condolences.

My deepest condolences and prayers for the family. Chris was an excellent art professor and inspired countless students. He was so much fun too! He always pushed students to be greater and work harder. He knew that the work you produced could be taken to a level higher.
I remember we were talking about music and he told me he was at Woodstock and could be seen in the movie. Now each time I watch "Woodstock" I'm sure to point him out, getting up during Jimi Hendrix 's set. But then again, maybe he was just joking and this whole time I believed it!
He was so sweet and just glowed. Everyone loved him. I'm so grateful that recently my husband was able to catch up with him. He let him know how influential he was to me and how much we will always appreciate his teachings and support.
May he rest in peace.

I am so very sorry for the loss of Chris and sorry, too, for the fact that I just learned of this, too late to attend the wake or funeral. As a counselor at RVCC, I worked with Chris for the last 20 years and in addition to being a talented artist he was a strong, caring advocate for his students. He will be missed by many.

So sorry to hear about Chris....he was an outstanding artist & teacher, and always had a calmness about him. My daughters attended his classes, and he was always interested to know where they were and what they were doing with their shared love of art and creation. We used to bump into him quite often, up in Frenchtown, and Clinton...we seemed to have the same favorite breakfast spots. He was very caring, and will be very missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him. He was a light to many, and I'm sure will remain to be. God Bless a fine man, and gentle spirit...Our Prayers are with him and his family at this sad time..

So shocked and sad to hear that My dear friend Chris is no longer here to hang out with, have colorful enlightening and encouraging conversations with... I have known him for so many years , he was such a endearing friend, he’s been in my life through so many great times as well as turbulent... he’s always been encouraging, and a a great wit, that could make me laugh, especially at myself and make me feel that I could do anything., always loved his light heart, it was reflected in his art, his love for family , friends and his dog... I met him when I was returning to college to get back into the swing of studieing hoping to return full time to study for my masters degree, he was in his first year teaching at teacher in the art department at RVCC, Such a sweet soul.Throughout the years, he’s been a true friend, a great artist, mentor,I will miss seeing him at the library, the Hunterdon Museum of art, and in town at towne restaurant, walking and talking about our art,or whatever bull was going on in life I just can not believe I won’t see him on a Tuesday morning before he’s running off to teach an art class. Thank-you again Chris for your light sweet spirit. So weird this week, I was away for a few weeks and was thinking of you, I thought Tuesday, I’d try to get to towne luncheonette,I hadn’t seen you for over a month. I was running late so today I thought may be I’d see you, a friend that knew we were friends sent me a picture of you, at first, I thought , that’s an old photo, I remembered it from an old art opening, no gray hair yet, I just thought it was an announcement of an art opening, only to read further to find out, I will not see you until our next life...

Chris was one of the greatest mentors I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing, during my time at Raritan Valley. He was the embodiment of an artist, and he was a kind, helpful, understanding, and yet persistently pushedhis students to do better. I will never forget taking drawing 2 with him. He made a positive impact on me during s time in my life when I hadn’t realized how much I needed that kind of guidance. My deepest condolences to those who knew him better than I did. Such a tragedy. Rest in paint Chris, you’re the man.
