Obituary of John Douglas LeGates
John Douglas LeGates, age 71, of High Bridge, NJ died peacefully on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at home surrounded by his family. John was born February 21, 1948 in Orange, NJ. He is the son of the late Rufus Gideon and the late Bertha M (Poutnik) LeGates.
He proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. John was a Police officer achieving the rank of lieutenant he retired in 2001 and went on to work as an investigator for the New Jersey Department of Transportation for eight years.
John is survived by his beloved wife: Janine (Wujtowicz) LeGates, daughter Jennifer and son John. Also surviving is his brother William Frank LeGates, Sr. and sisters Barbara Mergner, Mary LeGates and Patricia Stuparich (Joseph).
Friends and relatives may gather on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the Martin Funeral Home, 1761 Route 31, Clinton, NJ 08809. Funeral Service and burial will be held privately by the family.
Those wishing to share in a memorial celebration are invited to do so on Saturday, October 26, 2019 starting at 1:30pm at the Thomas J. Kavanaugh VFW Post 2290, 600 Washington Ave, Manville, NJ 08835.
